Why Yoga?

Yoga is a non-invasive, and therapeutic method that has been used for centuries to address a variety of health conditions. Research shows that yoga used alongside conventional therapies offers effective stress reduction techniques for populations living with mental illness, substance use disorders, justice involved youth, trauma-related obstacles, and incarcerated populations.

Impacts of Chronic Stress:

  • Stress accounts for between 60% and 80% of visits to primary care doctors.
  • Chronic stress has been linked to accelerated biological aging, increased chronic inflammation, and oxidative stress, two processes that cause cellular and genetic damage. Scientists refer to chronic, low-grade inflammation in the body as “inflammaging.”
  • Inflammaging has been associated with conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and a weakened immune system.
  • Increased Anxiety & Depression
  • Digestive problems
  • Headaches, Muscle tension and pain
  • High blood pressure and stroke
  • Sleep problems
  • Weight gain
  • Memory and concentration impairment
Our team really enjoyed our session with Candice. It was so informative, and we all enjoyed the mix of conversation, going through the workbook, and especially the hands-on parts like the breathing exercises, chair poses and getting to learn how to guide each other. I found that the four hours flew by, and I found Candice really approachable and kind! I also really appreciated Candice's sensitivity in the language she used, and her attention to accessibility and choice throughout the session.

I found the workshop helpful in learning how to integrate these practices into the small spare moments in my busy life - I sometimes try to make everything "perfect" setting up my space for yoga - I feel more empowered to making it fit into my imperfect work settings.
